Let’s be honest, if you’re in Suzhou you don’t have many options for drinking good beer. In fact, this may be your only real option, so be glad it’s such a great place, and I don’t just mean great for Suzhou — this is one of my favorite craft beer bars in all of China.
They feature 16 taps, almost all of them from China, and they rotate quickly. The staff is friendly, and Ming in particular is always happy to talk about beer or help you choose one if you’re uncertain what you want to drink. You will almost certainly find some beers here that you can’t get anywhere else in the world, as they are happy to work with very small local breweries and homebrewers and will feature their beers even if they only produce a few kegs.
The food menu isn’t extensive, but everything I have tried was very good, and also quite affordable. They have seating outside so you can enjoy nice evenings, and if you get too drunk to go home, you’re in luck. Birdland also serves as the lobby/lounge bar for the hostel above it! Just snag a capsule bunk and drink away your hangover tomorrow.
